The basic definition of Semana Santa is Holy Week. This holiday is very important to Spain and is known to be celebrated unlike any other European country. There are street processions in which there are floats and people carry statues around. There is an atmosphere of mo
urning despite the street processions, but at the same time for some reason there is a feeling of joy as the church/cathedral bells ring throughout the country. Also, cofradias means something like a religious brotherhood, like the one to the left that looks like the KKK.
